I know what you are thinking, and you are wrong. Nope, this blog is not ending, not while there are some very good and controversial items to talk about. I'm kind of waiting for the last post to die, and this is what they call "filler."
O yeah, about the "over" part, "what is over" you ask? Nothing more then the Bear Lake High School Graduation. The only reason that is significant is because (for lack of a better term) it is "my class." To commemorate the event I would like to ask you all a few questions.
#1-Type(s) of high schooling you have been a part of. (home, public,and (or) private school)
#2-What you like about the type(s) of schooling you have gotten.
#3-What you don't like about the type(s) of schooling you have gotten.
#4-How you think your schooling compares to the others mentioned. (those with multiple types of schooling obviously have a preferred opinion)
#5-Any other thoughts on this matter.

#1: I've always been homeschooled.
#2: With homeschooling you get one-on-one attention that you wouldn't get in public school. Pretty much ditto to Anna on #2.:)
#3: I can't think of anything I don't like with my schooling. ;)
#4: I think homeschooling would be the best when you compared all the choices. As stated earlier, you get one-on-one attention that you would get nowhere else. Also, if you had to go somewhere, instead of missing school, you just take your books with you (not that we kids always think that's a good idea:)).
#5: Well, I don't think I have any other thoughts on the subject. I haven't even really thought about it before. I am "home teached", you know. :)
Oh yeah,and if you're sick in bed dying your mother shows up schoolbooks in hand. :P

#1- I have only been Homeschooled all of my life so i don't know what the others are like.
#2- I get to teach myself at my own pace.
#3- I don't understand any Science or anything like that, so i just don't do them. And also i cant find good enough books.
#4- I would like to try the public school and see what it is like before i say anything about it.
#5- I am the only person in my Family (and as far as anyone knows, Distant family) that wants to go to Collage.
Well kitty, when you have only a Collage book of science and you have not done any other science books, you get lost very easily.
Like i said... i can't find any good books.

OK, I know it was a good thing... still! :)
4.I don't know a lot of what the world would say I should know, but I have had so much more then just sitting in a school room with a bunch of kids all day. I have had a lot of home economics. :D And been able to do a lot of things I never would have been able to do if my schooling were any other way.
5.Well as some one I know likes to say- "I'm just a stupid homeschooler" (He is one too, so he can get away with that).
Anyway I just filled all that out so I could ask Hamburg that :)

I would like to go to a Collage to learn more.
That way when i have Kids, (way later on in life) and they ask me a question in school i am supposed to know the answer. If i don't they will go ask someone else and if that person happens to be a evolutionist then that would be a problem.
There are several other reasons which i will not get into as i am about to have company here.

What kind of College are you thinking of?
'Cause you are NOT going to get any of that in some small town College, and not always in a "Christian" college will you get the true stuff that follows the Creation of the Bible.
And you best start working on your schooling really hard, 'cause if you are going to go to college you are going to need to pass your SAT and more to get in.
Now, I hope you know I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just trying to get you to think, really think about what you may be getting yourself into.

Bible Collage is what i am thinking of. And i know exactly what i have to do in order to go. And in order for one to save, one must have a job first.

I would like to start a Family too, you are not the only one.
Yes i would like to major in Music, but there are still a lot of choices that have not come into veiw yet. And yes i am in 9th grade.

Don't worry Bret, I don't intend to let things get out of hand. I'm Ali, Bret's oldest cousin, I thought this topic could use the perspective of someone who's from the total opposite side of the tracks. I've attended the University of Arizona for the past 2 years.
#1- I've attended public school my whole life. Preschool to college.
#2- What I like about public school is the diversity. You meant so many different kinds of people, make friends with all backgrounds and personalities. Also you cannot deny the benefits of public funding in school. Dissecting frogs, specialized equipment for science projects, books, and opportunity to compete against other people has a tremendous amount of motivation. Also, because of public schooling, I get taught by some of the best experts in the world. My college professors are professionals in their field, any new research or theory is immediately brought to my knowledge. More teachers don't have to look at a text book for the answer, more often than not they WROTE the text book themselves. (I'm not exaggerating.)
#3- The downside to public schooling is the fact that it is an instituion with rules. It is a game, you play it everyday. Those who can follow or manipulate the rules to their benefit will reap the rewards that the institution has to offer, those that don't are often steamrolled out of it.
#4- I've never been homeschooled but there is absolutely no possible way I could focus and motivate myself to study on my own. Nor could I learn from my parents, who are both extremely smart individuals but their fields of interest differ greatly from my own.
#5- Because of the opportunities of public schooling I learn from the some of the best on any field that I have an interest in. I can hold my own on just about any topic of intellectual conversation. I have a background in philosophy, linguistics, astronomy, and art. I speak Spanish. Who on Earth has the discipline or intellectual capacity to teach themself another language and pass at it? Whether or not I ever have to use it in my life, knowledge brings so much more depth to my world. I can look at a piece of art, know who it came from, where they were from, what was going on in history at the time it was painted and therefore understand its purpose so much better.
This topic has had a lot of posts about college, it desperatly needed the opinion of someone who is in fact a college student. Now that I have answered the original questions I will comment on some of the posts I've read so far.

Comment- There is no science on the SAT. It is reading, writing, and math.

If I were you I would make VERY sure that this was God's will for your life before you start making plans and defending your choice. Post- Some people are not blessed with the family that you and I have. I have friends who have had some truly dispicable things done to them by their parents. Their only way out is to go to college, it is their only opportunity to make an attempt to have happy life for this reason, I think this point is invalid. I think one only runs from their family if they have a darn good reason. Also, why do you try anything in life? Because you think you would like it. Why did you first eat pizza? Why did you first go ice skating? Why do you first try on a dress? Because you think you might like it. Why isn't that a valid enough reason to go to college? Yes it is a big commitment, but it is not a permanent one. If you don't like you can leave, which in fact many people do. You try things in life because you think it might make you happy, like pizza or ice skating. The bigger the risk the bigger the potential reward. I went to college because I thought I would like it, and I do, that's why I'm staying.
This post is very long but I wanted to catch up in the discussion. Looking forward to your opinions.-ALI
If you can teach yourself pronunciation, slang, and accent without the help of a native speaker then I will absolutly differ to you on this subject. I don't have the sort of discipline, the point was more centered on anyone can learn the words and the structure, being able to use it in context is an entirely different story. I'm not talking about passing in school, I'm talking about passing as a person fluent in the language. I simply do not believe that is possible without hearing and speaking with someone who is intimately familiar with it and in doing that you are not self taught.-ALI

I just spent 10 or 15 minutes reading and rereading all the comments. I must say at times I just started laughing at all of you. :) One short little sentence started this whole thing and look what it is ending up with! :) Really quite comical if you ask me (yeah, I know, you didn't).
My opinion on the subject would be...God has a different plan for everyone. For one person, his will might be to not go to college, for another it might be to go to a state university or such, for another it might be a christian college that he wants them to attend. Just because someone might be in a "worldly" college doesn't mean they are wrong, or any college for that matter.
I, personally, don't believe it is God's will that I go to college. But does that mean that it is wrong for maybe a sister of mine to go to college?
I also think that you can be homeschooled and not be "ignorant". I have been homeschooled my entire life. I think there are a lot of things that you can learn schooling at home that you couldn't going to public school. Just because I have not been public-schooled doesn't mean I haven't dissected animals and what-not. I have seen a cow butchered, I have seen a million rabbits butchered, I have helped butcher chickens, I have seen calves banded...the list goes on. You can get anything that you can get at public school and more! My sister took a mechanics course and she can change semi tires, do brake jobs, adjust clutches... My other sister took business mathematics in school, and while she was taking it, she could see how it was done in our business, not just read about it in books. She is now the secretary for our trucking business of 9 trucks.
You can learn just as much or more when you are homeschooled! BUT, you do have to keep on it and do it right. You can't just not do it because you don't get it. Work through it.
I am not trying to side with anyone. I am just stating my thoughts on the matter--that is what this blog is for, right?

Besides all the fun butchering stuff, I have also dissected a fish, frog, hearts, brains, etc. in Science class thanks to my mom's nothing-left-behind method of teaching. :)
Picking up a book once in a while is not going to get it done. During the time we do school I get up early and get to work, and I usually work all morning and part of the afternoon, then more in the evening.
But if you work hard and apply yourself I think you can learn more being homeschooled.

Krissy- you are reading a little to far into it. The frog dissection example was only used to illustrate the monetary differences. Public school often has public funding, public funding is institutionalized and institutions have a lot more sway in the world of opportunity that requires money.The UofA is sending a robot to Mars in 2009. I'm pretty sure no homeschooled family has the monetary capability of doing that.
Anna- I'm rather disturbed by your comment reagarding young adult women attending college. You spoke of a woman staying under the protection of her father. My father taught me to protect myself. The fact is he isn't going to be around forever, and your husband isn't either. I'm curious as to what you need protecting from anyway? If it is that dangerous you SHOULD know how to protect yourself.
You also spoke of learning the character and virtue of a wife. Are you suggesting that because I've attended college, I will have less character and virtue or be less fit to be a mother or spouse? Or that I cannot have both or be as good at both types of education? I cannot even express in words how much I disagree.
Yes, there are a lot of truly sad young woman who get lost during their college years. But should the actions of other people deter you from going where you want to go? If your beliefs can be tainted were they really that strong to begin with? Why is it that in your mind any secular influence will somehow lessen your connection with God? Isn't it possible by understanding other ways of thinking you could come to believe more strongly in your own?
You spoke of being there for the needy. These young women and men who are very lost and often sick with depression, eating disorders, and addiction, wouldn't they qualify as needy? Wouldn't it be more helpful to reach out to them and help them by being a good example instead of labeling them and judging them as you seem to have done? I see a lot of contradiction in your statements about te young people who go to college.
